Cullman Wildlife Tip: About Opossums: It is only a mere 11 to 13 days after the female has mated that she could give birth to as many infants as 20. Normally though a litter is no bigger than 8 or 9 babies. When they are born, there is no hair and they are no bigger than a dime. Once these little guys latch onto a teat, they will remain there for around two months. This is where they will continue to get the proper nutrients to help them continue growing and developing. They will not push each other out of the way in order to feed, so if there are more born than there are teats, the extra ones will die.
