DeKalb County Wildlife Tip: About Skunks: Skunks are well known for their ability to jet out a liquid with a very strong odor. They have an average length of 20 to 30 inches long including the tail. They weigh around half a kilo for the smallest one to around 8.2 kilograms for the hog nosed skunks. Their bodies are moderately elongated with slightly short, strong or well-muscled legs and long front claws that are used for digging. The most common fur color is white and black, but you will come across some skunks that are brown or gray and a few will be cream colored.
