Douglas Wildlife Tip: About Colonizing Bats: Those that live in the temperate areas will usually breed during spring. Usually, they will give birth to one offspring and they can give birth some three times within the year. The female bats are known to fly around gathering food when they are pregnant and they take care of the young until they can fly and look for food on their own. The females have a very unique ability where they can delay birth to make sure that it coincides with the time where the maximum food is available. They are able to store the male sperm within the reproductive tract for some months before they use it to fertilize the egg.
