Madison County Wildlife Tip: About Skunks: Life cycle and habitat: A mature male and several females (up to 12) will cohabitate together in a den from fall to spring. They can use the same winter den again and again if not disturbed. They mate during the months of February and March. One male can serve several females. The female skunks disperse from the winter den after mating and head to their maternal den. They gather grass and bring it to their maternal den for bedding purposes. The females give birth about 9 weeks after mating – this is around May and June.
