Rats have a big reputation for being dirty, disease-ridden animals, so it's hardly surprising that many people believe that their urine could be toxic as well. If you're anything like me, you will avoid Montgomery rats at all costs, that includes where they may have done their business.
So, is rat urine toxic?
It is possible. Similar to other Montgomery rodents, rat we can carry Leptospirosis, which is by far the worst disease and can cause some really unpleasant symptoms for those infected. Hantavirus is another bacterium that can be passed on through rat urine. Again, another illness that could do with being avoided.
