Denver Wildlife Tip: Mouse urine: is it toxic? How to clean odor
I believe that mice bring about a love or hate feeling, similar to that of marmite. Some people love them, even going as far to keep them as pets whereas others will writhe at the thought of them. The title of this article shows that I will be investigating, whether in fact, Denver mice are actually more dangerous then they may look.

Is mouse urine toxic?
There are many misconceptions brought around by mice and the dangers of their faeces. Like any urine or poop, it isn't going to be nice. However, the answer to the question has proven to be no. Unlike other Denver rodents, their urine is not always toxic and doesn't need to be worried about alongside other rodents.

Can Denver mice pass on diseases through their urine?
Yes. If unfortunately, the mice have Hantavirus then this can be passed on through their urine or faeces. However, if the mouse is a house-pet, you will likely know they have this before coming infected yourself. It is always advisable to stay away from droppings and urine anyway, and I'm sure people don't need telling twice.

How do I get rid of the nasty smell? Step one
If the smell has occurred due to a mouse infestation, it is important to overcome this and get rid of the problem first as this can be what smells.

Step two
Spray any droppings or urine with disinfectant and let this soak before trying to remove it. This way, the faeces is likely to be less harmful to humans. It is then important to wipe down any surfaces or floors with a mixture of; water, detergent and disinfectant in order to make sure that the smell is eliminated and any other nasty rodents aren't drawn to the smell.
