Gaseous repellents such as fumigants are more common than other types of repellents but it has been discovered that most repellents do not work in getting rid of groundhogs and the reason being that the animals will naturally get used to the odour of such repellents and find other ways to attack the home. How to get Groundhogs out from Under a Shed or Porch: Many people tolerate the rodents but sometimes they become enough of a problem that the only solution is to get rid of them. And it isn't always easy. Fortunately, the animals have to emerge from the sheltered enclave to forage, presenting an opportunity to trap them, send them back to nature. One-way doors are a logical solution for evicting them without harm. To be successful, the property owner must close off most of the occupied space, ideally with a trenched-in screen that extends down a few inches into the soil and extends outward away from the building for about a foot and one-half.
