Bloomington Wildlife Tip: After the pest critter has been effort to remove a pest animal, the work begins. I have seen a novice walk to the pest critter that he has just humanely trap and relocateed and say, "Now what do I do?" The pest critter must be transported out of the suburban neighborhood and the safest, and usually the easiest, way to do this is to drag the carcass. In order to make this chore easier as well as to cool the carcass, it is customary to remove the internal organs. If the pest critter happens to be a pest animal it should be castrated at once. The raccoon came to a point within a hundred feet of me before she saw me. When she did, things happened as I expected, and I swung the humane cage trap so that the sights were lined on her shoulder. I squeezed the trigger, and nothing happened except the click of the hammer on the firing pin. I had forgotten to put a wildlife trap into the barrel when leaving the house. At the click of the humane cage trap the raccoon took off through the neighborhood. She made a half circle around me at a distance that never exceeded two hundred feet, always in sight through the trees.
