Raccoons are interesting and intelligent wild animals. Primarily Detroit raccoons are carnivores' animals and like to eat water creature like snails, fish and frogs. They also used to eat insects, birds eggs, vegetation, flower and dead animals. They are also notorious for their habit of messing up with the garbage in urban areas in search of food at night.

Why Raccoon mark Territory
Male raccoons are solitary and reserved animals and like to stay alone. They like to have their own territory where they never let the other males intrude for food, shelter or females. Once they find a proper place for their den or nest. They start to use these sites for shelter and raising the young Detroit raccoons. During mating season they live with female raccoons in den. During severe winters raccoon live together in a den one male with 3 to 4 female raccoons. Territory of male raccoons ranges 250 acres of area. Raccoons have a habit of travelling in search of food, shelter, water and mating to female.

How raccoons travel
Male and female raccoons show different behaviors towards wandering or travelling around. Female raccoon confined to the den and remain faithful to the male. She provides babies with food, warmth and protect them by staying in the den most of the time until young ones get through first winters. While male raccoon in rural area travel as far as 10 miles from their nest for food. Raccoons are nocturnal creatures and find food at night. In urban areas, Detroit raccoons do not have to wander far away from their shelter to find food as there is plenty of food in form of garbage or leftover food or shelter in man-made structures like attic, sheds, chimneys or wood deck nest-boxes.
