Armadillo is a wild animal found commonly in southern part of the United States. Armadillo Appearance
Armadillo is a nine banded small mammal weighing about 13 pounds with the body covered with hard outer layer. The hard layer back of armadillo is regarded as armor. This is made out of bony plate called scutes. The general shape of armadillo is like oblong and head shaped in triangular form with set of ears close to each other. The color of this animal is either grayish or brownish or even light tan. With this description you can easily recognize armadillo when you find one.

Biology and life cycle of armadillo
The active period of armadillo is always between twilight to the early morning hours mostly during the summertime. They prefer being active during the day time in the winter season. This animal usually makes several dens in a particular area making it easy for them to escape death when pursued by their enemy. This animal has poor eyesight but with powerful sense of smell. They may look dull and clumsy in the eye but are really smart when it comes to running away from their enemies. Armadillo has average lifespan of about 12 to 15 years while in captivity. But, while in the wild they have tendency to live beyond this year. Another thing about armadillos is they are good swimmers and can even walk at the bottom of small stream.

Armadillos Habitat
Armadillo prefer living inside shady places, woodlands, brush, dense areas, and even close to creeks and rivers. This animal regards soil as a factor when it comes to choose their habitat. They love loamy or sandy as well as porous and lose soils easy to make their burrows. This animal prefers to live in places without hot or cold temperature. Also, the animal prefers to inhabit places with crevices and cracks. Rocky places are also food choice for them.

Armadillo diet and behavior
Armadillo usually feed on insects, small amphibians, insect larvae, scorpions, earthworms, spiders and other invertebrate. They also love to feed on eggs, lizard, frogs, snakes and other animals around. Armadillos usually cause serious problem to motorist due to their ability to throw themselves up to the air three times when they feel threatened.
