Naples Wildlife Tip: How to get rid of squirrels without killing them
Agile little guys, Naples squirrels don't tend to stay still. They are hyperactive and quite prolific, and if you have a nest of them in or around the house, you may have a real problem.

Remove all food sources
Squirrels have a tendency to aim for easy food sources: bird feeders, fruits, berries, pet food and trash cans. These are the things you should focus on, by:
• Securing trash cans
• Clean up your garden, rake up fallen fruit or berries
• Only place pet food when feeding your pets
• Change bird feed to a type they don't like
This will discourage them from staying, but getting them to leave will be a bit more challenging. Trapping and relocating adults would be effective if there weren't young, but there almost always is so that isn't a viable option.

Using a repellent, however, is.
These come in both granular and spray varieties, and it is recommended to use both as Naples squirrels are tenacious; they don't give up easy.Spray is used on the odd surfaces, like the trees they climb, fence posts, bird feeders etc. Also scatter the granular repellent in ceilings, the attic, across the garden and around the perimeter of structures, making it about as inviting as barb wired underwear for these critters.Next, there is one method to flush out a nest if it is outside, say, in a tree. Smoke is always a sign of fire. Use a bee smoker on the nest itself, but make sure not to flood the nest with smoke as this will suffocate the squirrels. Use the smoker on regular intervals, making it really unpleasant for the Naples squirrels to stay. They will move out quite soon with this method. Seal the nest site after they leave.
